12: those feel good hormones
5 ways to cultivate feel good hormones
We’ve all heard of them, so let’s talk about how you can cultivate serotonin, dopamine and endorphin within your neural chemistry on the regular.
- Meditate = serotonin (mood stabilizer)
Meditation helps us gain a new perspective on stressful situations, manage stress, increase self-awareness and ability to focus on the present. - Spend time in nature = serotonin
Spending extended period of time in nature AKA Forest bathing lowers blood pressure, heart rate, and levels of harmful hormones — like cortisol and brings you into a more calm and relaxed state. - Self care / celebrating small wins = dopamine (reward)
I used to always be on the go and never even paid attention to the little wins + now I take time to celebrate! It can be a day off, massage, bath or even treating myself to a little shopping. No matter what I end up doing, it’s a reminder that I deserve to be rewarded and am doing a good job. - Movement = endorphins (pain killer)
Whatever movements calls to you – yoga, dance, running, walking, boxing, hiking, playing a sport – you choose! Yoga + walking are my jam and I try to do one of them on a daily basis. - Laughter = endorphins
It’s so simple, but can make a world of a difference! Laughter can turn a stressful moment around in the matter of moments. Watch a funny movie, reflect on a happy memory, whatever helps you get into a more silly state of mind.
