6: how to recognize the power of your thoughts
Your thoughts mold how you see the world around you, the people in your life and ultimately your own potential to create a life filled with fulfillment and love. So, what do you think about each day? How do you create an environment built on empowering and positive beliefs?
Here are three steps to do exactly that:
1. Become more aware: this concept alone has taken me a decade to truly understand and apply on a consistent basis. Every time I thought I figured it out, I would fall back into limiting beliefs where I would circle around the reasons why I wasn’t enough. So, know this is not about perfection as much as it’s about creating the habit of taking a step back to recognize what is streaming within your mind and weather it supports your highest self or is tearing it down. Meditation has been a huge help for me to be able to sit back and watch my thoughts instead of engaging with them.
2. After you begin to witness your thoughts on a regular basis, then it’s time to identify limiting beliefs that are being reinforced. On average you think 60-80,000 thoughts a day and 80% of them repeat, so that neural pathways are you reinforcing? Which thoughts are supporting your desires and dreams? Which ones are consistently reminding your of what’s not possible and fears of what could go wrong in that pursuit? Write down 2-3 thoughts that have been looping in your mind and causing self-doubt in any arena of your life. What truth is there to this? Are they subjective? How were they established? Break them down to the simplest form and lean into the truth of how this is holding you back. Journal and reflect.
3. Next, it’s time to create an opposing thought that you can reference whenever one of those limiting beliefs pop up. It’s basic cognitive behavior therapy, replace one habit with one that is aligned with your desired result. I gave a few examples in this video and would be happy to create one specifically with you.
Lastly, give yourself permission to be truly present. When you’re in the here and now, you’re now thinking about the past, what could happen or your expectations about what should be occurring right now. BE WHERE YOUR FEET ARE. Look around, tap into your five senses. ALLOW YOURSELF TO SIMPLY BE.
