62: importance of fun
Why having fun and truly experiencing pleasure and joy in life is just as important as being productive. Having fun releases dopamine which leads to positivity and can counteract feelings of stress and overwhelm, so it actually has a positive impact on our biological wellbeing. Not making time for pleasurable activities can lead to increased irritability, anger, feelings of depression, and anxiety among other mental and physical health issues. 76% of adults surveyed by the American Psychological Association said stress from politics, race relations, violence and inflation has affected their health. They report experiencing headaches, fatigue, depression, nervousness and exhaustion. So, what’s the remedy? FUN!!
Consider the following when plotting your fun activities:
1. Come up with three to four memories when you had real fun and find ways to recreate those moments.
2. Take a moment to note who you feel the most at ease around, who sees the best in you and also encourages you to laugh and be silly.
3. Schedule time that you can truly unplug and be present to what is.
You know why?
- Having more fun improves your relationships, both at work and in life
- Fun makes us smarter + improves cognitive function
- Fun reduces stress + releases happy hormones like endrophins + dopamine
