S.2 Ep. 3 || Opposite of Crashing Out...
How easy is it to crash out when you feel triggered? I know I've been there and honestly have one of the worse tempers, but what I have learned is that saying hurtful things or acting out of pain never gets me to where I ultimately want to be. It drifts me further from what I am seeking, which is authentic connection. Effective communication is a skill that can be developed and improved with practice and is crucial for maintaining strong and healthy bonds. By implementing these tips, you can create more understanding and support within all of your relationships. Through years of working at crisis lines, teaching active listening workshops and holding space in a variety of environments, I have gathered a few tips that we can incorporate into every day life:
- Active listening: Understand and validate the other person's point of view before responding.
- Assertiveness: Advocate for your needs in a respectful and non-aggressive manner.
- Composure: Keep calm to prevent the conversation from escalating further.
- Empathy: See the situation from the person’s perspective and understand the emotions they might be experiencing.
- Problem-solving: Work to find a solution that benefits all parties.

- Don't waver or apologize for setting boundaries.
- Learn to decline requests that don't align with your needs or limits.
- Learn to recognize your limits and prioritize your well-being.
- Don't rely on others to know what you need; communicate your needs directly.
- Be prepared for resistance and maintain your boundaries firmly.
